Money, pigment, rope, sand

Branches of Memory is a mixed media memorial artwork built from rope, coins, pigment, and sand. The tree is shaped by hand from rope and painted silver, giving it a quiet, reflective presence. Its branches hold the money Ally left in her wallet, turning something she carried every day into a small tribute. The coins become leaves, symbols of weight, lightness, memory, and continuation.

The dark background grounds the composition and lets the metallic surfaces catch the light as you move. The texture of the rope contrasts with the smooth shine of the coins, creating a balance between softness and structure. The frame encloses the piece like a keepsake, holding the moment gently and giving it a sense of stillness.

This artwork is part memorial and part offering. It transforms ordinary materials into something enduring, rooted in the belief that even the smallest things she touched can continue to hold meaning long after she’s gone.
